No one knows why this strange name was chosen, perhaps saying "weunow faiiive" in English was too complicated, or Michel from marketing suggested it after a hot dog in New York. In the 1970s, the oil crisis prompted Renault to launch this little car in the United States in partnership with AMC. But Americans weren't ready for such a cute, economical car, and manufacturing problems and AMC's financial situation complicated matters. Although it spawned special versions and conversions, the Renault 5 Le Car did not survive long in the United States. Today, it has become a rarity, and you could pay around $10,000 to own one. This is the story of the little French car that tried its luck on the other side of the Atlantic and ended up shining in a very strange way.
